You probably weren’t cheering if you have ever sat in game day traffic on I-95. There is no better way to get to some of the East Coast’s iconic ballparks along the Northeast Corridor (NEC) than by train. Amtrak and NEC commuter railroads deliver fans to the game via the corridor by connecting with other transit systems.
In the early years of Major League Baseball (MLB), teams and their fans relied on railroads as their primary mode of transportation to games. Throughout the 1800s, as baseball grew in popularity and leagues expanded, railroads became increasingly important in supporting MLB teams as players and fans traveled longer distances to get to games. In fact, game times were often scheduled to align with train timetables, a practice that continued for decades. Today, some teams in the Northeast still use trains to get to their games.
The next time you are catching a baseball game at one of the nation’s iconic ballparks along the East Coast, consider taking the rails.
